Large complex programs and projects, especially those affecting
mission critical systems and operations, require careful evaluation
and continuous risk monitoring throughout their life cycles to
ensure success. We provide an efficient, economical “early
warning system” to the managers of organizations engaged
in large complex projects of all kinds. Examples include converting
from one computer system to another, re-engineering internal
processes or integrating the businesses of an acquired institution.
Project risk management may be impaired for a number of reasons.
- Executive management for large projects is often disbursed
among several individuals who will avoid actions that could
be perceived as policing the activities of a peer.
- Line management may lack the time to regularly assess risks
to the project and the authority to manage across the breadth
of them.
- Project management is a discipline distinctly different
than running the business itself. It may not be well-known
to, or often not practiced by, otherwise capable line management.
- Project managers, if internally employed, may be too involved
in the creation and execution of the project plan to be reliable
critics of the process.
- Internal risk management and audit personnel are seldom
project management professionals, may lack the subject matter
expertise to be effective, and are likely to be consumed by
important business-as-usual activities.
We can provide unbiased assessments of significant projects
to managers, steering committees, risk management and audit as
project management experts independent from internal organizations
and external vendors. As part of each engagement, Antaean Solutions:
- Agrees on topics, audience, and timing for report cards
as well as escalation rules based on the organization’s
methodology,
- Evaluates and make recommendations about people, processes
and technology during project execution, and
- Arbitrates disagreements between the company and its vendors
at all major milestones and established checkpoints during
and between major phases of the project if desired.
During the planning phases of the project, we will evaluate
and make recommendations for:
- Project description
- Scope planning and definition
- Activity definition
- Schedule development
- Resource planning
- Cost estimates and the budget
- Quality planning
- Communications planning
- Risk management planning
